MTHL-Metro Link (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link - Metro Corridor)
With the view to connect the mainland to Mumbai through rail based mass transport MMRDA has planned a metro corridor from Prabhadevi to Sewri and further to the Mainland through Navi Mumbai to a suitable Location on the Panvel-Pen section having interchange stations and facilities with the existing and proposed rail system. Following are the advantages of the proposed MTHL-Metro Link. MTHL Metro Corridor will induce and accelerate the development on the main land. MTHL Metro will encourage mass transport and cater to the future travel demand of main land area. MTHL Metro will facilitate decongestion on other passenger time transport systems & fuel consumption saving.
The MTHL-Metro Link (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link - Metro Corridor) is a key infrastructure project designed to enhance connectivity between Mumbai and the mainland, facilitating smoother transportation and accelerating regional development. Here's an expanded explanation of the advantages of this proposed Metro Corridor:
1. Inducing and Accelerating Development on the Mainland:
- The introduction of a metro corridor from Prabhadevi to Sewri, extending towards Navi Mumbai and the Panvel-Pen section, will spur significant urban development. Improved access to Mumbai will make the mainland a more attractive destination for residential, commercial, and industrial investments.
- The development of interchanges and seamless integration with existing and proposed rail systems will further enhance the area’s appeal, leading to increased property values, business activities, and better economic opportunities.
2. Encouraging Mass Transport and Meeting Future Travel Demands:
- The MTHL Metro will create a fast, reliable, and efficient alternative to other forms of transportation, encouraging a shift from private vehicles to public mass transport. This will help address the growing demand for urban transport in the mainland area, which is witnessing rapid urbanization.
- The project aims to improve public transport access, making it more convenient and sustainable for commuters, thus reducing reliance on personal cars and easing traffic congestion in Mumbai.
3. Decongesting Existing Transport Systems and Reducing Fuel Consumption:
- By providing an efficient metro link, the MTHL-Metro will alleviate pressure on existing transport systems, especially road traffic, which is often gridlocked, particularly during peak hours. This will lead to a reduction in travel times and improve the overall mobility of residents and commuters.
- The shift towards metro-based transport will also contribute to lowering fuel consumption and decreasing air pollution. Fewer cars on the road will reduce the dependence on fossil fuels, contributing to a greener, more sustainable urban environment.
4. Enhanced Interchange Stations and Integration with Rail Systems:
- With strategically located interchange stations along the corridor, passengers can easily switch between the metro, suburban rail systems, and other transport modes, making the entire transit experience more seamless and efficient.
- This integration ensures that commuters can access a comprehensive and interconnected transport network, further optimizing travel routes, reducing waiting times, and improving the overall user experience.
In summary, the MTHL Metro Corridor offers substantial benefits in terms of economic development, sustainable urban mobility, decongestion, and environmental preservation, making it a transformative project for the region1.Length wise distribution (Total length : 49.60 Km)
